Last Ever Sun Run!

I know this seems a long way off, but as this is the last ever event, places are going to go fast, so we need to book our tickets now!

 The weekend is for Explorers and Senior Section Guides (Aged 14 and over) Scout Network, Leaders, Fellowship etc to participate in a national event where the emphasis is on having fun and working together – all at reasonable cost. Rushbury Court Farm, Cleeve Hill, near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL54 5AE. Grid Ref: SO 991 280. Easy access from all areas of the Uk, via the M5 motorway. Cheltenham has a railway station and airport (and airport – if you have small plane or helicopter!! ).The 16-acre site overlooks the beautiful Severn Valley and the Malvern Hills

Saturday
Throughout Saturday you can enjoy your own “Glastonbury” There will be venues for entertainers, Theatre Groups, Craft Stalls, Competitions, Sports, Gladiator Games, Euro Bungee, Fairground rides, arena displays and much, much more
Then On Saturday Night The Sun Run or Moon Run:
As dusk falls, the air comes alive with the sound of Bagpipes escorting the Sun Runners at the start of the Sun Run.The aim of the event is to watch the sun set from the Cleeve Hill then Race, Stoll, Skip and Hop, or Crawl round the route recent circular route starting and finishing at the site, in time to see the sun rise, now a full marathon distance 26.2 miles later.
You can choose between the Full length Sun Run or the Shorter 13 mile Moon Run.

Sailing Events 2014

This year Explorers will have the opportunity to start dinghy sailing, or to improve & practice their skills through a course of weekend events throughout the year.
This course is open to new sailors, and those with more experience. We will sail at two locations, and will also be visiting the dinghy sailing show in London. We hope to be able to offer Explorers the opportunity to be assessed for RYA awards as part of the events.
Dates for sailing events are;

1st – 2nd March Weekend Sailing day at the lake on Saturday, evening sessions on theory, overnight stay and day trip to London Dinghy Sailing Show on Sunday.
26th April Day Sailing day, Corsham lake.
26th – 28th September Weekend Weekend sailing trip to Wimbleball lake.

The total cost of these events will be £70.00, this includes;

  • Use of boats, specialist equipment & instructors.
  • Accommodation.
  • Food for both weekend events.
  • Boat launch fees.
  • Travel & Transport (To Wimbleball Lake & London)
  • Entry to RYA Dinghy Sailing Show.

This will be payable as a £10 deposit to secure your place, then £30 around 6 weeks before the each weekend trip.
You will need to have your won water activity kit, but we will supply any specialist equipment which may be needed.
Due to safety regulations, we are only able to offer this experience to 8 Explorers, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

2014 Mountain Walking Events

We will again be offering the opportunity for 7 Explorers to spend time in Mountains, looking at navigation techniques, wild camping & spending time in some of the best mountain scenery in the country. During the course, Explorers will cover all aspects of the Navigation badge and the Hillwalking badge.
The dates for this event are;
Sunday 30th March                                 Day                  Brecon Beacons National Park, Central Region
Saturday 19th – Sunday 20th July Weekend          Brecon Beacons National Park, Black Mountain
Weekend Wild Camp Expedition
Friday 12th – Sunday 14th September       Weekend          Lake District National Park
Weekend in Bunkhouse, 2 Day Walks

  • The total cost of this event will be £100. This includes;
  • Transport by minibus to each location.
  • Expedition food for the wild camp and full board for the bunkhouse weekend.
  • Road tolls & travelling expenses.
  • Bunkhouse accommodation in the Lake District.
  • Specialist & group equipment.
  • Qualified Scout activity instructors.

This will be payable as a £20 deposit to secure your place, then £40 around four weeks before the first weekend and £40 four weeks before the final weekend.
You will need to have good quality waterproofs, strong walking boots and warm clothing for each of the trips.
Due to safety regulations, we are only able to offer this experience to 7 Explorer Scouts, these places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
